According to the Vancouver Police, officers have responded to more than 65 sudden deaths since the onset of the heatwave, which began last week Friday.
Temperatures in Vancouver began to increase last weekend and rose on Monday, June 28, 2021, to 101F.
Canada’s officials said that the heatwave-related deaths had impacted front-line resources by depleting them and delaying response time.
Media Relation Officer Sergeant Steve Addison said, “We’ve never experienced anything like this heat in Vancouver.”
Most of the people that died are senior citizens.
Officer Mike Kalanj said, “We are seeing this weather can be deadly for vulnerable members of our community, especially the elderly and those with underlying health issues.
It is imperative we check on one another during this extreme heat.”
