Chile Declares National Days of Mourning for Covid-19 Deceased

ChileChile’s President, Sebastián Piñera, declared that the country will remember Chileans who died from COVID-19 on August 9th to 10th.  

While announcing the days of mourning, Mr. Sebastián Piñera said that the government wanted to pay “tribute to all those people who lost their lives as a result of the pandemic.” 

The President also said that “we have decreed a National Mourning on Monday and Tuesday so that all Chileans can remember them and give them meaning because their sacrifice was not in vain.”

During the announcement, 460 bulbs were lit in memory of the deceased. Also, a moment of silence was observed at the sound of a Carabineros trumpet.  

On Sunday, Chile’s Health Ministry announced that 65 people died that day from Covid-19. To date, 36,016 people have passed from Covid-19 in Chile.
