Around the world, people are struggling to deal with living their lives with COVID-19.  Bustling cities are now at a standstill.  Airports that were once filled with people are now ghost towns.

The Caribbean is no different. Many seaports that were once filled with eager tourists are now closed.  Not only has the Caribbean’s tourism industry been significantly impacted, access to adequate healthcare, education, and in a lot of ways, freedom (economic and liberty) has suffered a significant blow.

We face a new realty with COVID-19, however, we must cope somehow with our new reality.  Here are some ways we can do just that.    According to the US Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one should do the following in order to manage their stress during this pandemic:

  1. Take a Break: It is important to take some time away from the news and social media. Being exposed to information about COVID-19 all day can significantly impact one’s mood and outlook on life.

  2. Eat nutritious food, Exercise or Mediate: Doing this can positively impact your mood and attitude about the situation

  3. Take part in activities you love: Though we must be physically distant, we can alter activities that we enjoy inside of our homes. Personally, I like enjoy cooking, running around the house with my toddler, and playing games with my husband.

4. Speaking with others: Covid-19 has taught many people that we simply need each other.  Instead of texting, give someone you care about a call.

We are all in this together and though we may be socially distant, we will preserver together.
